WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

San Francisco AIDS Foundation, 23Asian

Members:

In this powerful series, individuals simply speak directly to the camera.

"I'm 23 years old and I'm gay," says an Asian-American man. "I was talking to this older guy the other day. He told me that all of his close friends had died from AIDS. ALL of them.

"At first, I couldn't relate but then I started thinking. Everyone I know is struggling with safe sex and I could wind up in that guy's position some day. I love my friends, I don't want them getting AIDS. I want for all of us to be around a long time."

This ad and others from the San Francisco AIDS Foundation only aired in the organization's home city. It is an unfortunate reality that no major condom manufacturers, government agencies or any AIDS organizations have created national messages to the American gay community. Most traditional broadcast TV networks also will not carry such messages if condom makers wanted to air them.
