WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Leder & Schuh, Sperm Bank

Members:

Two women sit closely in front of a computer in a sperm bank, looking up information about possible donors.

The first candidate listed is a 41-year-old, athletic brain surgeon. The women look at each other, shake their heads, and press the "next" button. The second contender, a 38-year-old Nobel prize winner and non-smoker is also rejected. Next, the women see a picture of an overweight shoe salesman, 44. He, of course, works for Humanic -- and the women are ecstatic. They kiss and touch each other romantically.

Their relationship (and their desire to have a child) is presented positively in this ad for Austrian shoe company Humanic. Posters showing the two women kissing were also a part of the campaign.

I like the ad. It shows that lesbians, unlike gay men, care more about the individual than about looks. And it was great casting by the client as we don't see enough fat people on TV. These are the kinds of lesbians I want to see on TV.
