WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Gay City Health Project/Seattle, He Wants You Hard, Not Stiff

Members:

In a direct reference to death ("Viagra + poppers = danger"), this ad refers to a potentially lethal combination by heart attack of Viagra and a commonly used drug called "poppers" -- nitrates that are sniffed for a brief high and relaxation.

(Doctors once prescribed amyl nitrite for heart patients in capsules that were broken or "popped" to release vapors. They are now bought in liquid form under brand names like Rush, for the feeling it provides. Because poppers also cause muscles in the anus and vagina to relax, they are often used during sex.)

Pfizer, which makes the popular erectile dysfunction prescription drug Viagra, has never initiated an education campaign to the gay community about the interaction dangers of its product.
