WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, The Check Out

Members:

In an elegant hotel, a man and woman walk up to the desk arm-in-arm to check in. The desk clerk says he'll be right back, and the female decides to step away to freshen up.

In the meantime, a handsome, well dressed man steps up to the counter to be helped, standing right next to the previous man.

A female clerk now steps over, asking "Are you gentlemen ready to check in?" She has misunderstood that the two men, who have never met, are a couple. Momentarily confused, they look at each other and back at her. The first man seems impressed at his new "partner" but doesn't say a word.

The now-familiar tagline for Las Vegas appears, "What happens here, stays here."

The ad title is a play on "checking out" -- of a hotel, and of the guy next to him. It may imply that the man is bisexual and open to cheating on the woman he is with.

The ad appeared on Bravo TV, E! and gay network Logo TV.

Las Vegas first began targeting the LGBT market in 2008, in print.
