Actors Ben Hogestyn (Lucas) and Lindze Letherman (Georgie) from ABC's soap opera "General Hospital" talk about discrimination based on sexual orientation. Letherman says, "Every day people young and old face hatred, discrimination, and even violence because they're gay."

Hogestyn continues, "Prejudice and discrimination of any kind is wrong. Be an ally and a friend. To find out how, visit glaad.org"

According to ABC's press release, "Lucas came out as gay to his cousin Georgie... and the storyline will find the character a victim of a gay bashing. He will face issues of coming out to his mother, Bobbie (Jackie Zeman), and Uncle Luke (Anthony Geary)."

The ad earns an Equal rating for addressing discrimination using widely liked celebrities who are addressing the issue in programming.

Generally, I liked the ad. It was a good message simply stated and just long enough to hold everyone's attention. However, I did have a problem with the statement, "prejudice and discrimination of ANY kind is wrong." The fact that it is prejudice and discrimination directed at gay people makes it wrong. At the end of the ad, it seems like the direct issue is avoided or is qualified by association to other more palatable civil rights struggles.
