Equality California, Governor: Be A Hero

Members:

A sequence of images depicts respected American politicians regarded for their promotion of equality and democracy, including John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Mexican-American labor leader Cesar Chavez. The politicians are introduced as "those who have made America great, the ones who have brought America together, who have stood for fairness and equality and against discrimination."

Next it says, "Now, Governor Schwarzenegger will make a decision for which he will forever be remembered."

As the montage plays out and the prior images of virtuous leaders are juxtaposed with a picture of the conservative, segregationist former governor of Alabama, George Wallace, the narrator continues, "Schwarzenegger can stand up for the basic rights of all Californians and sign the Marriage Equality Act or he can stand with the forces of discrimination."

The ad concludes with a direct address to the governor himself -- "Governor: the choice is yours. Be a hero."

Ultimately, the Governor decided to veto the proposition.
