WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

"My name is Dave," says a man sitting at his desk. "I work for a large manufacturing company. I'm 53 years old. I've worked for my company 35 years, and…" he pauses.

"I'm gay," he continues, "and I'm coming out today to my manager, because he's given us an invitation to a company party at his house and he's told us that he'd like us to bring spouses and so forth. And I'd like to bring my partner and I don't want to shock him too bad, so I'm going to come out to him and I hope he's going to be understanding and welcoming. But the state I live in does not have any laws that protect gay employees from discrimination at work. So I'm a little bit anxious about it." He smiles nervously.

The screen then reads, "In 36 states, he could be fired for doing this."

Dave heads down the hallway to his manager's office. As he walks through the door, the screen fades to black and reads, "Continued at TurnOut.org."

Other ads for the TurnOut campaign for equality feature lesbians named Lisa and Kimya and a gay man named Frank.
