Advertising the launch of Europe's first 24-hour gay channel, largely financed by France's three main commercial networks, a 1984 photograph showing former French President Francois Mitterrand and ex-German leader Helmut Kohl holding hands carries the headline, "A relationship is about more than just sex."

The image comes from a ceremony of Franco-German reconciliation commemorating World War I, and brought the controversy PinkTV was seeking when the European press covered it widely.
