1996 Television Report A Problem

Narration says, "Christine Todd Whitman said discrimination against gays has an adverse affect on productivity.

"Coretta Scott King supports the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

"Barry Goldwater said its about protecting basic rights.

"Catherine Gingrich said, 'I think gays have the right to a job if they can do it.'

"More than half of Fortune 500 companies have policies banning job discrimination against gay and lesbian people. Eight-five percent of American voters agree. Tell your senators to join President Clinton in supporting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act on Sept. 5th."

ENDA, as the act was known, came very close to passing in 1996 but failed by one vote. It has not come up for a vote again since.
