This is an early example of hotel advertising in the gay market from a local hotel in La Jolla, Calif. Because corporate hotel chains remained shy of the market into the new millennium, local operators such as this one located in gay-friendly places created their own ads to run in national gay magazines.

In June 2000, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts finally broke a corporate campaign for the chain in national gay media -- the first hotel company to do so. However, it did not include gay specific creative, just a mainstream ad.
