WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Chips Scandinavian Co., Paprika

Members:

In a clothing store dressing room, a conservatively dressed man finds some red lingerie left behind and decides to try it on.

As he is admiring himself in the scanty, laced outfit, a fire starts and the store alarm goes off. Quickly, he tries to remove the outfit but his own pants have caught fire as people are running out of the store. Panicked, he decides to just go wearing just the lingerie.

The text asks, "Looking for something to spice up your life?"

News footage then shows the man climbing down an external fire stairway, while his family at home looks on in disbelief.

This ad for KiMs X-Tra potato chips/crisps won a European Epica Award, but uses the well-worn cliche of dad in a dress.

I don't find this advert offensive at all. Funny? Well, maybe a little. Also, isn't it common knowledge that cross-dressing is chiefly a heterosexual thing to begin with. Besides, the man in the bikini is far from being stereotypically gay-looking or gay-acting (if there is such a thing as being gay-looking and gay-acting, of course!).

This ad is really neutral, not negative, and mildy funny.

Although I didn't find this ad particularly funny, I certainly didn't find this offensive. I don't feel it deserves Commercial Closet's rating.

As a long-time crossdresser, I found this commercial very funny and not offensive at all! I had a similar experience when a saleslady tried to usher a woman into my dressing room, not realizing I was in there changing!

This ad is more amusing than offensive. The fact that the man is willing not only to try on the lingerie, but is also willing to expose himself is a liberating concept. This ad isn't about being gay, it's about a married man with children exploring his self-image.
