WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Walt Disney Co., Loving Anchors

Members:

In documentary style, the news director of ESPN's popular program "Sports Center," Vince Doria, says to the camera, "People ask me all the time, 'How do you decide which anchors work together?' To be honest, it's an awkward process."

Then one of the anchors finds a note on his desk, which he reads, "Dear Larry, if you wanna do the sports together, check this box. Charlie." Charlie then peeps back from his cubicle to see that the note was read.

Doria continues, "Ultimately, you're looking for a good relationship."

Then a young anchor, sitting on the desk of another, asks nervously, "Um, if you're not doing anything later tonight, um, would you wanna do a show with me?" The other doesn't even look at him.

"Whoever said all is fair in love and war was probably a broadcaster," Doria goes on.

Then in the closing shot, one anchor ends the program while facing the camera, as his co-anchor faces him with arms crossed and angrily says (as if his wife), "I don't even know who you are anymore."

This spot turns the meaning of "working relationship" into "romantic relationship" with low key humor that works without being stereotyped or offensive.
