This ad for TurnOut, a campaign for equality, aired in Michigan.

The date, October 21, 2003 appears onscreen as a woman says, "Living every day sad in your heart that you can't be who you wanna be, I can't do it anymore. I'm a person and this is who I am."

She wears an ID tag and walks down what appears to be a hospital hallway.

Sitting on a bench, she continues, "So today I decided to come out and let everyone know I was gay. And I thought that I'd go about it this way…"

She reaches into her bag, and pulls out a framed photo as she continues, "…By showing everybody a picture of my girlfriend and I, and leaving it out on my desk."

"If they ask me who it is, I'm gonna tell 'em," she says with attitude.

The screen reads, "In 36 states including Michigan, you can be fired just because you're gay."

With a smile, she says, "I'm Lisa and I guess I'm out now," concluding with a chuckle.

Other ads from the campaign feature gay men named Frank and Dave and a lesbian named Kimya.
