This print ad for the American Foundation of AIDS Research features an African-American man and accompanies another with a Hispanic man. While not otherwise gay-specific, they were featured in gay male porn magazines like Inches and Playguy.

In April 1983, Dr. Mathilde Krim founded the AIDS Medical Foundation (AMF), the first private organization concerned with fostering and supporting AIDS research. In 1985, AMF merged with a like-minded Long Angeles-based organization to form AmFAR.
