WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

ViacomCBS, Take A Stand Against Violence

Members:

The word "hate" flashes across the screen, followed by a rapid fire series of famous images referencing the idea, including Adolf Hitler, Ku Klux Klan cross burnings, anti-black racial violence from the south, interspersed with quiet images from the Wyoming plains where gay student Matthew Shepard was slain for being gay, and the wooden fence he was tied to, to die.

Newspaper photos of the two men responsible for his death are pictured, along with references to the local Fireside bar where the three men met before the attack.

The ad ends with the call to action: Take a stand against violence. Fight for your rights.

This in-your-face, starkly real call-to-action ad makes me want to cry. It's elegant, beautiful and heart-breakingly truthful.
