WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

American Cancer Society, Dummy

Members:

In a campaign intended to address fear with humor, the American Cancer Society shows the "lengths" that straight men will go to to avoid a rectal examination for prostate cancer.

In this one, a man hiding in the corner has fashioned a dummy "bent over" on the table, including two latex gloves blown up -- one for his head, with an "Oh no!" face drawn on.

The tagline: "Getting a prostrate examine isn't nearly as bad as people think."

What does this have to do with LGBT issues? Is commercial closet saying that we like prostate exams, or those who don't are homophobic? The inclusion of this ad is rather offensive.

Straight or gay, male or female...No one enjoys those "yearly exams." I am a straight female and I found this one offensive
