WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

DaimlerChrysler, Similarly Individual

Members:

A rare look at women who are not beauty-idealized -- with shaved heads, a tattoo and grill attitude as one sticks out her tongue -- this Mercedes-Benz ad that ran in The Sunday Times of London seems to play with the idea of copying of "individuality" in its lookalike women and the tagline "similarly individual."

It is the second Mercedes ad in the Commercial Closet collection -- the other is from Mercedes-Benz of Southern California and makes fun of celebrities who appear to act straight.

I love how these women who are so far from being stereotypical babes are portrayed in an appealing way. A rare treat! As far as sexuality, I'd put this in the "gay vague" category. Do their shaved heads imply that they're lesbians, or just straight women who like to shave their heads? Are they lovers, friends, or sisters? Who knows?

These women look like twin sisters, not so much like lovers. They are nearly identical to each other--all of their features seem to match, except for the tattoo, which is different.
