Focus on the Family Action, Don't Senators Believe Every Child Needs A Mother and Father

In an effort to liberate itself from IRS restrictions on political lobbying, Focus on the Family has created a new, legally separate entity called Focus on the Family Action. Dr. James C. Dobson, founder and chair of Focus on the Family, is founder and chair of the new organization.

This ad featuring a sad faced boy ran in the presidential swing state of Ohio, as well as other versions in Alaska, South Dakota and elsewhere. In each case, the state's relevant senator names changed.

Carrie Gordon Earll, a spokeswoman for Focus on the Family Action, said it ran just once. The group focused on states that already have constitutional amendments or state statutes defining marriage as just between a man and a woman and that have senators who are opposed or undecided about the Federal Marriage Amendment.

It reads, "Why Don't Senators DeWine and Voinovich Believe Every Child Needs a Mother and a Father?

"Unless the Senate passes the Federal Marriage Amendment, homosexual marriage could be coming to Ohio-and sooner than you think. Here's the bottom line: homosexual marriage intentionally creates fatherless families or motherless families. Think about it.

"Ohio's senators have said nice things about marriage. But so far they won't take the one step that will save it. They won't support the Federal Marriage Amendment. We thought you would like to know.

"Every child understands how important a mom and a dad are. Help make your senators as smart as a kid. Pick up the phone and tell their staffs you support the Federal Marriage Amendment, and they should too."
