WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Christian Dior, Alternatives

Members:

Christian Dior created a campaign featuring two men, The Wizard and Oliver, along with their female companion the Mouth, that caused some controversy as it implied a bisexual three-way among them. The campaign, which ran from 1982-1984, showed their escapades together, later leading to marriage between two of them, and a despondent "best man." The ads appeared in publications from Vogue to Playboy.

This installment, one of the least suggestive, shows one of the men picking out a shirt, tie and collar with the help of his male and female counterparts.

“How could the Diors possibly make up their minds, when playing the alternatives was so much fun." This ad ran in both Esquire and The New Yorker.
