WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Baume & Mercier, The Tick-Tock You Feel Inside

This ad appeared in Martha Stewart Living magazine as well as on the company's web site. Since faces are not well shown, it is unclear if these women are a couple, mother-daughter, or sisters, but offers an intriguing possibility.

Wow. I have mixed feelings about this ad. On the one hand it's incredibly touching and beautiful, and fabulous for the sentiment. It's certainly not a place that resonates with me, at all, but I trust it could be for others. However, it feels like a “safe” portrayal of could be lesbians, could be sisters, could be friends.

To me, this looks like a pregnant woman and a pre-pubescent child, most likely her daughter. The pregnant woman's face has a maturity that the other person's doesn't, and the extreme thinness and lack of breasts makes me thinks she is simply a pre-pubescent girl. Perhaps I'm totally wrong.
