WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

American Cancer Society, Barricade

Members:

In a campaign intended to address fear with humor, the American Cancer Society shows the "lengths" that straight men will go to to avoid a rectal examination for prostate cancer.

The tagline: "Getting a prostrate examine isn't nearly as bad as people think."

Oh my god, having someone put a finger up my ass must mean I'm gay, I can't let that happen! These ads play upon the fear of anal penetration that is based on deep-seated homophobia. And by the way, not all women have "loved ones" who are men, as suggested by this ad.

So the only possible reason that a man would be wary about a prostate exam would be homophobia? And "loved ones" could mean husbands/boyfriends/significant others but it can also mean father, brother, friends, etc.
