Houston Ministers Against Discrimination, Fair Houston

Members:

With a backdrop of American flags waving in the wind, a narrator says, "In a time of national unity, we need mutual respect and fairness for all Americans. That's why Houston Ministers Against Discrimination and the Houston Chronicle say vote against City Proposition 2.

"It would require Houston to discriminate against gay city employees and deny them the health benefits given to families of other city employees. That's not fair.

"If you do the same work, you should get the same benefits. We are all one nation. Vote against intolerance, vote against City Proposition 2."

The ad failed and the anti-gay measure was narrowly approved, 52 to 48 percent, and prohibits the extension of health care benefits to same-sex partners of municipal workers in America's fourth-largest city.
