WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

E-on, Rain

Members:

An attractive woman, top German actress Veronika Ferres, struts out of a rain storm into an expensive designer store and is greeted by a loud, limp-wristed and flamboyant clerk, who hops around like a dancer as he tries to show her clothing.

She makes a selection, changes into it and then walks out into the rain (and a fountain!) wearing the design as the clerk comically runs after her.

The tagline: "They look forward to the future."

This power company commercial is not looking too futuristically at gay portrayals, showing simply how stereotypically gay the clerk is, for humorous effect. According to German marketing consultant Michael Stuber, "The agency was quite proud of it, saying they heard from the gay scene
that the first shout of the flamboyant clerk was actually imitated in some parts of the community. They did receive more inquiries for autographs from the camp guy than they did for V. Ferres!"
