WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

The earliest commercial anywhere worldwide to show a gay male couple together is this one from Denmark, directed by Danish director Lars Von Trier ("Breaking the Waves", "The Idiots", "Dancer in the Dark").

Cooking a romantic meal at home, one drinks a glass of wine and looks on lovingly at his partner, who is cutting vegetables as he prepares the meal. No longer able to resist, his partner grabs hold of him and begins kissing passionately as the food cooks. They even shove many of the vegetables on the floor, jumping onto the counter top in their heat of the moment.

Then, as they're kissing, one of them asks the other if he'd forgotten the spice thyme -- as they look back at the newspaper where the recipe is printed.

Newspapers as a category of advertiser have lead the way in many countries for gay-themed ads, including Brazil and Canada.

Dazzling to every sense.

Vinny
Wonderful ad, very sexy and romantic.

Osvaldo
I thought this was very well done! Wow! and this was made how long ago? Just amazing.

Vance Blankenbaker
This is a groundbreaking ad in so many ways. Can you imagine USA Today or the New York Times running an ad like this?

Byron Roberts
Amazingly honest, real, romantic and could be done in America if the advertiser was brave enough.

Darcy
This is a beautiful ad. I instantly fell in love with it.

Terrence
What I find most appealing about this ad is the genuine love and affection these men share for each other. Often, even in the best gay themed ads, the focus is more on the sexual attraction. Not often is the true love connection between men shown.

Matt
Cute and warm. Love it.

Rúben
Clever and simple, as all advertising should be.

Ryan
A great portrayal of one facet of gay life. Truthful, funny, and simple. Very well done.

Max
Now THIS is a great ad--two professional men who are so obviously turned on by each other. The affection/passion between them is portrayed very matter-of-factly. And best of all, neither is a conventional "gay" stereotype!

Mike
Very cute indeed... and simple in its presentation, that's a two thumbs up...
