Samsung, Make It Yours
Introduced for the Oscars and featuring two Oscar-nominated women, director Dee Rees and cinematographer Rachel Morrison, from "Mudbound." They are the first black women and lesbians to be nominated for best adapted screenplay and cinematography.
The ad begins with two bored girls sitting on their bed, telling each other that they "should make something." Then a woman in a restaurant shouts "Make anything!" as she gestures wildly, breaking a glass -- as she is shot by another woman with her cell phone who adds, "Make something awkward." Then a series of mostly female artists and directors are featured. It ends on Dee Rees and Rachel Morrison sitting next to each other in an empty movie theater, saying "And then you never know. You might make history."
The tagline: Do what you can't.
