WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Bouyges Telecom, Perfect Day

Members:

A gorgeous man and woman are married in a lavish wedding as "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers plays.

On their honeymoon, they go to a magnificent chateaus and, as they arrive to their room, immediately become passionate on the table and on the floor -- without even waiting to take off their wedding clothes.

The woman then excuses herself to go to the toilet and, as the man takes a peek, he sees that she is urinating while standing up, revealing that she's actually a man. He cringes painfully.

The closing text says, "Reflechissez avant de vous engager" or "Think before you commit yourself."

The tagline is: "Le portable sans engagement" ("The cell phone without a contract.")

The husband's reaction to the possiblity of just having sex with another man is so typical hetro. [It is not impossible for a woman to do it standing just unusual.] Be that as it may, the ad is so stupid, insulting, and degrading to all.

This ad is not commenting on crossdressing per se, it is commenting on making (un)informed decisions. I don't see it as negative at all. She's a beautiful woman (man if you will) and the husband is simply realizing what he has done -- married someone he doesn't really know. Perhaps instead of cringing painfully, he should open his eyes with disbelief or confusion (thus he doesn't pass judgment but it's not for him as he is a straight man).

The old “pee standing up” as a rug pull. Lame and offensive.

ZB
If that's a man, he's crossdressing very well, especially his face. I think it's more likely to be a weird woman who urinates standing up.

Russell
What relationship doesn't require compromise?

I don't think that it is 'so typical hetero' when a straight man cringes after he finds out that his girl actually is a girl. This reaction does not reflect his ideas about homosexuality: I would be shocked too if I found out that the guy I just had sex with turns out to be a girl.

There are whole web sites on the subject of girls who stand up to pee. Actually, it's a very normal and much more sanitary practice.

Jacob
This ad is HORRIBLE because of the "duplicitous transsexual" stereotype that is so often used in sleazy ads like this. Using transsexual females as the butt of jokes is sickening and getting old too. Does that really entice you to buy a phone?

I don't find this ad demeaning towards gay people at all. In fact, I found the commercial to be quite comical. As far as the reaction on the man's face, I think that is a normal reaction. Being a gay man myself, if I were to marry a man and on our wedding night, found out that I had actually married a woman disguised as a man, I would probably have that same reaction. I think this ad deals more with lies and deceit and the person's reaction to the fact he was lied to, and less about homosexuality.

Jon
Perhaps it is merely a really weird woman......

Don
I don't find this ad extremely offensive. But I do have a question in regards to the fact that nobody has mentioned that the groom is intentionally trying to catch a glimpse at his bride using the toilette.
