WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

The Gap, Make Love (Malcolm Ford and Max Snow)

Members:

This ad features musician Malcolm Ford and artist Max Snow, although neither man is gay. Some versions of the poster ad were defaced in Chicago, and another in the campaign featuring Sikh actor and designer Waris Ahluwahlia were defaced in the New York City subway. The Gap was praised in its prompt handling of both situations in social media and replacing the posters.

Kari Shellhorn of Gap Inc.'s global corporate communications office told the Windy City Times, "Gap's marketing campaign is about inspiring people to fill the world with love this holiday season. It features a range of cultural icons, including actors, singers and artistic collaborators, chosen for the ways they are spreading and creating love in the world. Gap is a brand that celebrates inclusion and diversity. Our customers and employees are of many different ethnicities, faiths and lifestyles, and we support them all."
