Marriage Arizona, It's About Marriage (John McCain)

Members:

A joyful, 60-something heterosexual couple are playfully whispering to each other. Following is a shot of an elderly woman kneeling next to her hospital-bed-ridden husband while the voiceover narrates: "The opponents to Proposition 107 are lying when they say some seniors will lose hospital visitation rights and Social Security benefits."

An image of a Social Security card is displayed as the narrator continues, "That's just not true. They want to keep you in the dark about what Proposition 107 really does."

While shots of smiling, younger heterosexual couples are visible, the voiceover proceeds without pause: "Proposition 107 does one thing. It protects marriage -- one man and one woman. Marriage is the foundation of society."

A brief slideshow of traditional families plays and the narrator adds, "It is how we raise our children, build strong families, and create strong communities."

At the conclusion of the ad, Arizona Senator John McCain introduces himself and makes his plea: "I'm John McCain. Please join me in voting 'Yes' on Proposition 107."

The ad earns a Negative rating because the achievement of the organization's mission would prevent the possibility of equal rights for gays and lesbians in Arizona.

A state consititutional amendment against same-sex marriage, Proposition 107 did not pass as 48.2% of voters voted "Yes" and 51.8% of voters voted "No". As a result, Arizona became the first of 28 states considering such an amendment that voters turned down. The campaign's website has a statement from the spokesperson of the Protect Marriage Arizona Coalition, Cathi Herrod, who claims the loss was on account of Arizona voters being "bombarded with misinformation about Prop 107 by our opposition."
