WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

IFP, Everyone Likes To Watch

Members:

A man and woman stumble into an apartment, giggling. "Wow, nice place," remarks the man.

"Thank you," replies the woman. Coyly, she adds, "You should go make yourself a drink, sweetie. I'll be right back."

She enters the bathroom, leaving the door ajar, and the man heads toward the kitchen. Another man sits on the couch, eating popcorn, as if in a movie theater.

Her date searches for a glass as the woman fixes her hair and adjusts her tight black dress. The man on the couch watches intently.

Just as the man in the kitchen begins pouring his drink, the woman in the bathroom begins hiking up her skirt. She stands squarely in front of the toilet as "she" proceeds to pee like a man, standing up. The man on the couch stops eating his popcorn, eyes wide and mouth hanging open.

"Everyone likes to watch," reads the screen in this ad for the 2004 Los Angeles Film Festival. But this is obviously not true of the man on couch, who cringes in horror as she returns to the living room, the two lay down and kiss passionately on the couch in front of him.

This joke is not a new one. In Belgium a 1999 ad for Bouyges Telecom created a thematically similar ad for Nomad cell phones.
