WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Colorado Conservative Voters, Honest Bob

Members:

This commercial from Colorado Conservative Voters (lead by former Colorado Sen. Bill Armstrong), which aired in Colorado Springs and Grand Junction, attacked Pete Coors, former CEO of the brewery and seeking candidacy for Senate, for authorizing his brewery to back "the homosexual agenda" by paying to sponsor PrideFest, advertising in homosexual publications and by offering employment benefits to same-sex couples. The ad also charged that Coors Brewery ads are "degrading to women and nearly pornographic," since they feature "scantily-clad girls and frenzied drinking scenes." The campaign was intended to support Coors' opponent for the position, Bob Schaffer.

"Because the attacks are so scurrilous and so nasty, we felt it was necessary to respond," said Cinamon Watson, spokeswoman for the Coors campaign. "When the campaign turns ugly, it's not just bad for the party, it's bad for the voters."

Schaffer's campaign denied any ties to Armstrong's group or its ads.
