WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBTQ+ EQUALITY

Clarica Life Insurance Co., Men's Room

Members:

A man frantically enters a bar in search of a toilet. Seeing the sign for the washrooms, he goes down the steps and is confronted with cutesy (and ambiguous) signs to indicate which restrooms are for which gender. Confounded, the man abruptly stops and puzzles over which room is supposed to be for him since both are Picasso-like in their abstraction of humans.

The ad's narration comes in, "There's a lot to be said for clarity." Then, relieved as someone exits one of the washrooms, he looks for a clue -- except the person, tall with short hair and pretty, is androgynous!

An amusing look at societal reliance on gender, without disgracing the androgynous person.

I'm trans and I think this is pretty funny. It's happened to me in life. It was pretty funny then too.

Hilarious! The sad thing is, I've been in almost the same situation. :-P

This is funny without being mean—an ideal example of how this can be done right.

I'm still laughing my ass off over this one...

A classic "It's Pat!" moment. I was laughing SO hard when I first saw this ad. And to this day my friend and I are still completely polar as to the gender of the person coming out of the washroom. I'm absolutely certain it's a woman whereas he's sure that it's a man.

I wonder how long it would take the hapless guy in the ad to realize that, if you can't figure it out, it probably doesn't matter!

genius... freakin' genius...!
