To traditional Italian music, a mother and father in their back yard cooks out with their son as they prepare for more arrivals.

Then their beautiful daughter arrives -- with a black man, who smiles and looks around. Her parents stare in disbelief. Her brother uncomfortably but silently mouths the word "ow."

Mom, who is woozy as she stands holding a platter of alcohol, says in Italian, "My God, this is your Chris?" Her daughter replies, "No Mama, this is Chris," as another woman walks up and puts her arm around her with a smile. (She is attractive with short hair, and gives the man a tip for carrying their bags.)

The parents eyes are now wide as saucers, with dad's mouth falling open. The brother smiles and nods his head approvingly. The tagline: "No sweat." At the end, the camera pans up Chris' body as her girlfriend gives her a kiss on the cheek.

This ad has run nationally in Canada on the Playboy Channel, during the "SexTV" program and in cinemas.

Is it just me, or does this ad imply that it's better to date someone of the same race than someone of a different race? Um... ew. Can't an ad be accepting of one kind of couple without insulting another?

I don't see this ad as condemning interracial relationships as worse than same-sex ones. The way I interpret this ad, the old-fashioned parents are shocked by both ideas, and the brother is shocked but thinks lesbians are hot. Because there's no implication that either racism or seeing lesbians as mere sex objects is immature at best, I agree with the neutral/negative rating.

It's pretty good, actually. It's not racist or homophobic, rather it mocks the parents' prejudice.

Nina
Those two women are so hot! Well done.
