Save Our Children, Inc., Save Our Children
This anti-LGBTQ ad aired after the passage of a January 1977 Dade County law banning LGBTQ discrimination in employment, housing, and public services. The founder of Save Our Children, Anita Bryant, a beauty pageant star and singer known for Florida Orange Juice commercials, was also a vocal opponent of LGBTQ rights. She successfully led the way to get the law repealed with this commercial.
It starts by showing "wholesome entertainment" of the local Orange Bowl Parade (which Bryant hosted) with majorettes spinning batons, contrasted with the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade. The announcer says "But when THEY take to the streets, it's a parade of homosexuals, men hugging other men, cavorting with little boys, wearing dresses and makeup. The same people who turned San Francisco into a hotbed of homosexuality want to do the same thing to Dade County." It ends, "Vote for the human rights of your children."
The ad never shows a child.
