Maplebear Inc., Merman Ballad

The merman and mermaid figures hold meaning within the LGBTQ+ community. For one, merfolk fish halves lack visible human genitalia, they are often viewed as uniquely non-binary. And in contemporary digital art and illustration, academic research notes that mermen (like this one with a leatherman look) are frequently drawn to cater to a gay male aesthetic.
