Sporting blue hair and a matching jacket, the gay rapper Lil Nas X says, “We stand here in defiance. We the makers, we the groundbreakers. We the creators, the screamers, the dreamers…We defy what logic says what we should look like, sound like, be like.” He also reappears in his snazzy pink cowboy outfit from last year.

Lil Nas X returns for his second Super Bowl in a row. In 2020, he promoted his hit song “Old Town Road” for Frito Lay’s Cool Ranch Doritos but this year he features some of his forthcoming (much teased) song “Montereo (Call Me By Your Name)” – a reference to the 2017 gay movie.

Per Adweek, among the real artists featured in the ad are visual artists YesYesNo (Zach Lieberman and MolMol Kuo), light artists Nonotak (Noemi Schipfer and Takami Nakamotol), graphic designer and illustrator Mercedes Bazan, makeup artist Kimberley Margarita, musician Yvette Young and variety streamer Meg Kaylee. The activists include gender equality advocate and founder of EnrichHER, Dr. Roshawnna Novellus; Intersectional Environmentalist founder Leah Thomas; education activist Melz Owusu; and teenage climate activists and Kids Against Plastic founders Amy and Ella Meek.
