Champions (producers by Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy) is the name of an athletic club set in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn, and the name of this NBC series featuring a feminine young man, Michael.

"You were the sweetest little boy, until you saw Bernadette Peters sing 'Send in the Clowns' on PBS and you've complained every day since that you needed to live in New York City," says Kalig as his mother.

"Isn't New York spectacular? Even this cheap, poor part," Michael says to an unsuspecting New Yorker.

In another scene, Michael says to his father and brother, "I feel compelled to reveal something to tell you: I'm gay." The father responds, "It's not that difficult to tell that you're gay." and the uncle adds, "I could tell from the way that you talk." That was the punchline.

The background song is "Born this Way" by Lady Gaga.
