A small, animated baby toddles on a street. A narrator says, "Sometimes, there's a mother. Sometimes, there's a father. Sometimes, there's a father and a father. Sometimes, both fathers are mothers."
Continuing on the list, "Sometimes, there's a mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, weird aunties with funny hats, a butler and old uncles who do nothing but eat rare, smelly cheese. And sometimes...there's no one at all. But sometimes, there are boxes." It goes on to display the hijinks of the BoxTrolls. The narrator concludes, "Families come in all shapes and sizes. Even rectangles."
The movie is to be released in fall 2014. Laika is the same company that created "Coraline" and the Oscar-nominated "Paranorman." Travis Knight, the president and CEO of Laika, told The Hollywood Reporter, "We’re not in any way trying to be activists. We’re just trying to be who we are."
