This ad for a British gay organization shows a variety of people of color, all engaged in kissing and intimacy. Interspersed is text calling the interactions a "love thing," a "lust thing," a "life thing" and a "gay thing."

The tagline: "Rubber up or leave it out."

This is one the best ads I've seen. It's especially appealing due to the fact that in a gay world where most images of gay men reflect a "white world," it's refreshing to see people of color seen.

It is important to show gays as minorities. When Matthew Shepherd was murdered I know some kids who made fun of it. If Matthew Shepherd were black, I know they would not have been so unsympathetic and heartless because all kids think blacks are cool. These youths would accept homosexuality more if they know that there are black people who are gay too. Aside from that, I have noticed too much of gay activism is focused on the AIDS crisis. Not enough focus is on decreasing homophobia, removing laws against sodomy, and legalizing same-sex marriage. The fact is anyone having unsafe sex knows the risk. I believe in existentialism. The only person who can protect you from AIDS is you. With that said, most of my activism will not be focused on the AIDS crisis.

This ad is AWFUL. "It's a Gay Thing"??? C'mon, what the hell is that? Perpetuating that HIV is a "gay thing." I personally think it's misinformation and that it's these kinds of ads that hurt a lot of people. "Ignorance is bliss" and believe me the ignorant people out there will only use this as their basis for "I thought" or "I saw" or "They told me"
