WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Queercompany, Thank God for Women

Members:

British gay web site Queercompany introduced a controversial month long outdoor poster campaign that showed two women in bed sharing a romantic kiss with the tagline "Thank God for Women." A male version shows two bare chested men embracing.

Wanda Goldwag, managing director of Queercompany, said that the company was not trying to shock. "We are trying to attract upmarket lesbians and gays," she said.

England's Advertising Standards Authority, a governmental watchdog agency, rejected a complaint against earlier Queercompany advertisements that showed two men hugging under the headline "I'm Queer. And by the way this is not an apology" and two women holding hands, next to the words, "No White Wedding. Sorry Mum."

This is a beautiful example of love between to women. It's refreshing to see an ad portraying lesbians as femmes, rather than the stereotypical butch in combat boots, sporting a crew cut. This ad displays warmth, sharing, tenderness and heartfelt love, what a relationship is all about. Eat your heart out, straight boys!
