WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Ellus, Ellus Angels

Members:

For Brazilian fashion designer Ellus, this ad shows two guys with their arms around each other, one of whom is wearing a black leather skirt and has long hair.

The Ad Spotter says, "the third man is wearing a small or cut t-shirt where you can see his abdomen. This particular type of clothing is considered very gay (effeminate) in Brazil. Leather is also not popular with heterosexual men, unless you´re talking about motorcycle jackets."

She adds: "Regarding the colors used in the ad, the red background seems to contrast greatly with the black leather and the title 'Ellus Angels.' In Brazilian advertising, when you talk about angels you usually use blue and white colors, never red or black, since these colors are associated with evil (the devil) or sin. Take into consideration that Brazil (although it doesn´t seem so) is a very conservative society."
