WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

SHS Group, Locker Room

Members:

A group of men are dressing in a locker room.

"You've got something on the bottom your foot, mate," says one of several guys seated to the standing man. Awkwardly bent over as he puts a sock on, he replies, "I'm not falling for that."

Then the other men chime in, telling him to check the bottom of his foot. "We're honest mates!" they explain.

Curiosity gets the best of him. With his hand on his hip, he looks over his shoulder and pops his foot into the air. With this feminine-looking pose, his friends hoot and holler, mocking him.

He shrugs off their remarks as they laugh at him, but suddenly, their faces drop as two large, bald men walk into the locker room. They look the shirtless man up and down with slight smiles, as he stands nervously.

The ad for WKD vodka relies on stereotypes for a giggle. It aired in Great Britain and when viewers complained, WKD made this statement: "The advert is intended to be amusing and is certainly intended to offend anyone, least of all those in the gay community, who drink our product on a regular basis."

The fact that the two "more masculine" players stare at the butt (pardon the expression) of the joke, without having seen his "pansy" stance, suggests that they find him desirable as he is (which, of course, he is). Your rating seems unjustified.

I loved it because the straight men were the one's acting "nelly". I felt that the two butch bald men who entered the locker room at the end seemed to be checking out the guy who had posed in such a "queeny" way. It was a nice turn around from the standard ad or other gimmick playing on gay stereotypes.
