WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

France Telecom Group, Elton John

Members:

Elton John sits on stage, playing the piano. Two men approach and he stops playing.

“Elton,” one asks with an American accent, “How would you like to be the face of Orange 3G?”

Elton appears confused. The other businessman dons a pair of silly 3G glasses. With his hands flying around wildly, he tells Elton, “3G is fast, like a rocket, man! And you can videocall!”

“Rocket man?” says Elton with a smile.

Taking turns, the two men explain the offer:

“Say you’re worried that your outfit is a little OTT,” says the American. “You just videocall your other half.”

“Ahh, but they don’t have a 3G phone,” says the second man.

“And that’s where we make it 3G-peasy,” the first man explains.

“Buy one 3G phone, get another one for free,” the second man says.

“Pow! One for you, one for Mrs. John!” replies the American.

Elton then tells them, “I’m gay."

“You’re gay? We’re ecstatic!” says a narrator. The ad ends with the deal, explained on screen: “Buy one 3G video phone, get one free.”
