WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Duty Free Shops, The Gift

Members:

In this wacky installment of an over-the-top series, a masculine guy named Claude approaches and cups the behind of a sissy, who is wearing a lavender shirt and black leather pants.

"I got this for you," Claude says, offering a present to the sissy who responds, "Wow, Claude! You're such a shooby dooby!" If the object of his affection is not odd looking enough, he even has mismatched eyes because he was stopped in middle of inserting his colored contact lenses.

At that moment, a dominatrix-type woman in a black leather outfit -- who was also Claude's lover -- walks into the room, surprising them and causing the feminine guy to jump into Claude's arms, whose pants fall down. "I don't believe it!" she announces. He says, "I can explain!"

Seeing the gift, she says to Claude, "You bought cosmetics in Israel again?"

The feminine guy then gets upset, after thinking his present was from somewhere more exotic. He gives the present back, saying "In Israel? You bought in Israel again?"

And the woman says, "Claude, you're such a disappointment to me!"

The narrator says, "Purchasing perfume and cosmetics at the Duty Free Shops saves you and your family more than 1500 shekels a year."

With a twist at the end, the woman inexplicably fondles the sissy -- who makes a most unhappy face -- asking, "What does he have that I don't?"

Claude and the woman, who are lovers, have appeared in previous ads in the same campaign, along with Claude's overweight wife.

The campaign uses well known characters from a soap opera program, and the style copies
the Israeli low budget "burekas" films.

While the commercial handles Claude's extra-marital affairs equally, his male lover is a classic stereotype. The spot could still have been funny without relying on the sissy depiction.
