WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Mitsubishi Corp., Life Stages

A man drives his car as a series of life experiences in the vehicle are relived, starting with his early single life. He is seen driving sexy women, partying with friends, and a hippie with his arm around him apparently making an advance (the driver carries a gross-out expression).

As it progresses, the women he marries is in her wedding dress, he carries friends in costume, his wife is then ready to deliver a child, then the child is in the backseat.

While it is unclear of the nature of the hippie's presence -- be it a friend with the wrong idea or a hitchhiking stranger -- it is clear that he negatively rejects the others' interest.

I really would disagree with the assessment of this ad. The concept itself isn't intentionally negative, and the choice of character that is mentioned here goes intentionally not to be critical of the man for whatever interaction is being portrayed (not really a pass) but the obvious impression, given that the character is a "hippie" type with dredlocks and implied to be unwashed, is that the character is less motivated by sexuality and instead by his appearance and attempts at 'male bonding' (of the banging a drum in the woods variety) appears to be the message.
