San Francisco AIDS Foundation, 50Black
In this powerful series, individuals simply speak directly to the camera.
"I'm 50 years old and I'm in love." says an African-American man. "I'm also gay and HIV negative. For the past 12 years, I was single and I assumed I probably would remain that way. There have been some lonely times when I wondered if it even mattered if I got AIDS. But much to my surprise I met a man I plan to spend the rest of my life with. I am SO glad we've both managed to stay uninfected all of these years."
This ad and others from the San Francisco AIDS Foundation only aired in the organization's home city. It is an unfortunate reality that no major condom manufacturers, government agencies or any AIDS organizations have created national messages to the American gay community. Most traditional broadcast TV networks also will not carry such messages if condom makers wanted to air them.
