WHERE SUCCESSFUL ADVERTISING MEETS LGBT EQUALITY

Volkswagen, Wink

Members:

A preppy-type guy drives down the usual S-curve road for a car commercial, but drives through a section of fuzzy tree stuff and gets a piece in his eye.

He then arrives at a stoplight, occasionally blinking because of the object in his eye. He turns to find a group of Hell's Angels on motorcycles next to him and inadvertently winks at a scowling member of the gang.

When the gang member sees the man apparently wink at him, he plays along and winks back, to the driver's nervous dismay. The motorcycle guy laughs maniacally and rides away.

With $40 million behind the overall campaign (including this commercial), it was widely seen nationwide.

I was really busted up with laughter about this add. It was extremely funny that the cyclist winked back. It seemed as though his attitude was one of 'Hey, what do I have to loose; just having a little fun on a long journey.' I think the cyclist knew the driver didn't know he was winking at him. The cyclist kinda turned the tables a bit just to get a reaction, hence his own laughter. Funny, funny, funny.
