In this ad the HRC attempts to put straight couples in the shoes of gay couples by flipping the world around.

The commercial takes place in a hospital waiting room, where a man awaits to hear the status of his ill wife. The room is full of gay and lesbian couples holding each other.

A doctor and nurse come in and inform the man that his wife is in a coma and is not responding, but since the state does not recognize their straight marriage, he cannot grant spousal visitation. He then says that if she was awake or there were a family member around to give consent then he could, but that is not that case.

The doctor and nurse turn and walk away leaving the man in shock, alone, surrounded by gay couples who are allowed to see and be with their loved ones.

The announcer adds: "Hospital visitation: just one of over 1,000 rights granted to a legally married couple."
